Why do I see my own site in the "Other" category?

Sometimes you'll see your own website in the "Other" category of the bar graph. For example, here is visit information for alleydog.com in the "Other" category:

This graph seems to be telling us that 438 people landed on alleydog.com by coming from...alleydog.com. How could that be?

The most likely answer is that the visitor came from some page within alleydog.com that doesn't have the Spring Metrics tracking code on it; for example, alleydog.com/login=success. When they jumped from that page to alleydog.com (which DOES have the tracking code on it), Spring Metrics interpreted the referrer as alleydog.com/something..., and grouped it under alleydog.com in the graph. Which is why it shows up as a referrer in "Other".
