How to Install Spring Metrics on Your Custom-Built Website

Last Updated: Jan 10, 2014 11:15AM EST
These instructions apply to websites that are custom-built and do not use a third-party CMS to power the website structure and/or content.

1. First, log in to Spring Metrics and click the "I'll embed the code myself" button:

2. Next, copy the tracking code inside the box (note: you will see an actual ID, not "yourIDhere"):

3. Now, access the header file for your site. Paste the tracking directly above the </head> tag in that file. Then Save or Upload your changes.

4. Next, we'll need to track conversions. Your system will most likely have variables that store bits of information, like an order's ID, revenue total, shipping total, associated email address, etc. You will want to use those variables instead of the placeholders in the code below:

<script type="text/javascript">
_springMetq.push(["setdata", {revenue: "REVENUE_VARIABLE_HERE"}]);

_springMetq.push(["setdata", { "orderId": "ORDERID_VARIABLE_HERE" }]);
_springMetq.push(["setdata", { "email": "EMAIL_ADDRESS_VARIABLE_HERE" }]);
_springMetq.push(["setdata", { "promoCode": "COUPON_CODE_VARIABLE_HERE" }]);
_springMetq.push(["convert", "sale" ]);

5. Once you've located your system's variables, copy the code above and insert your placeholders into that code.

6. Now, access the file that generates the code for the "thank-you" or "receipt" page of your site. Paste the tracking code into the very bottom of that file. Then Save or Upload your changes.

Effectively, when someone converts, they will hit this "thank-you" page and the tracking code will be loaded. The code will send the order information to your account in Spring Metrics.

That's it! Now you're all set up to use Spring Metrics. If something didn't work, or if you have any questions, please email us or call us at 1-800-799-9304.
